There are profiles of first Fond du Lac families like Colwert and Fanny Pier and brother Edward Pier, along with prominent businesses owners who were instrumental in growing the city.When the pandemic or summer travels make getting to church a challenge, here are some Pajama Vespers and Godly Play™ resources for parents and children to share at home and grow in faith together. Several copies of the books are in poor condition, but the University of Wisconsin-Madison Map Library has agreed to take any map-related items the library no longer needs. Early editions from the 1800s contains beautiful, hand-drawn renditions of prominent homes and buildings located throughout Fond du Lac County. More recent discoveries include multiple copies of pre-1930 plat books, listing county landowners.

With limited services and abbreviated hours for almost a year, employees found they actually had time on their hands and put it to good use reviewing and starting the process of digitizing some of the old records, according to Lori Burgess, the library’s assistant director of operations. Those forgotten treasures, stored away in the archives at Fond du Lac Public Library, were rediscovered in the throes of a global pandemic, among them hand-illustrated plat books from the 1800s, old tourist travel maps, long-forgotten funeral home records of early settlers and photographs of the county fair from the turn of the century.Īll that changed when the library was shut down in March 2020 due to restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. FOND DU LAC - Old records and leather-bound volumes chronicling Fond du Lac's past were put aside years ago, tucked away for safekeeping when everyday tasks that need attention at the library took precedence.
